The Future could not be Brighter
Jermey Childs
Now that Boise State’s football season is over it is time to look towards next year.

Boise State has a little image problem that they are going to have to work on overcoming. That problem is their success in bowl games. They did beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, but they have loses to: Louisville, Boston College, East Carolina, and TCU. Every single one of those games were losses to good teams and they were all close, but it isn’t a very good trend. As a Bronco fan I realize that it is going to be pointed out more and more from here on out. People aren’t going to point to those losses and say they were to good teams and all of the games were close, but they will just see the wins and losses. So be prepared for fans of other teams and media pundits to be bringing that up. I think that in large part that the WAC competition that Boise State faces each week does not do enough to prepare them for the big games. They aren’t used to playing top notch teams every week and it hurts them in the bowl games.

The good news is the future couldn’t be looking brighter for this team. This was supposed to be a re-building year or that is what the media thought. I would think by now that they would realize that Boise State does not have re-building years, they reload. That being said, no one really expected Boise State to have the year that they did, not even the faithful Bronco Nation.

The team will be losing some key players:  WR Vinny Perretta, WR Julian Hawkins, OT Andrew Woodruff, RB Ian Johnson, DT Sean Bingham, DT Joe Bozikovich, LB Tim Brady, and S Ellis Powers. The players that will be replacing them are going to be young, but very good.

Looking at the depth chart for the Poinsettia Bowl on thing really stood out. There were 22 freshmen that either started the game or were second string and there were 13 sophomores listed on the depth chart. That is really impressive to think about. It is no surprise that people weren’t expecting BSU to be this good. It is hard to have a really good team like they had this year with that many freshmen and sophomores on the team. With such a green team you can thank Coach Petersen and staff for putting such a good team together. Most coaches in college would have a hard time winning with such a young team.

The future for this team looks extremely bright and if Kellen Moore and the offensive line can take the next step this is going to be a very dominate team come next year.

A fun side note: Nationalchamps.net has come out their Early Bird Preview.
